ASSESSMENTS
Speech & Language Evaluation
Monolingual and Bilingual Speech and Language Evaluations are conducted to establish a baseline of an individual's communication skills before initiating speech-language therapy. These evaluations are also utilized to gauge the growth made following therapy sessions.
During these evaluations, different aspects of communication such as receptive language, expressive language, pragmatic language and skills, pre-literacy and literacy skills, voice, fluency, oral motor skills, and articulation (speech) are assessed.
Assistive Technology Evaluation
There are two types of Assistive Technology Evaluations: An Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) assessment and an Assistive Technology (AT) assessment.
The AAC assessment determines the suitability of other modes of communication such as gestures, writing, drawing, or a technological system for effective communication, in addition to speech.
On the other hand, the AT assessment determines whether the addition of a technological system is appropriate to aid in accessing the curriculum, including reading, writing, mathematics, and other subjects.
Feeding & Oral Motor Evaluation
During Feeding and Oral Motor Evaluations, the strength and coordination of the oral muscles are assessed to determine if there are any difficulties with oral food intake and intraoral food manipulation. Possible sensory feeding concerns are identified, and a distinction is made between picky eaters and problem feeders.
